Addiction Medicine Practice Opens in Sarasota

By Susan Hemmingway, Bradenton Herald Health Correspondent

SARASOTA — Jonathan Kunis, an addiction medicine physician, has opened a new addiction and recovery practice at 2401 University Parkway, Suite 200, Sarasota.

Kunis was an anesthesiologist at Manatee Memorial Hospital before he began work in addiction medicine. He became the assistant medical director of HealthCare Connection in Tampa, a residential addiction program, and most recently was medical director of Hazelden, a treatment center in Naples.

His new practice will be for outpatients and provide “intimate, close-up, personal care” for medically assisted recovery, Kunis said.

After an assessment, patients will be able to detox at home. “Some people don’t want to go into a residential program,” he said.

Medications are available that help control cravings and once patients are stabilized, Kunis guides them into recovery through follow-up care. For information about the new practice, visit www.drjdkunisrecovery.com.
